يعتبر كتاب علم النفس العصبي أحد الكتب المهمة في المكتبة العربية الذي يتناول العلاقة الوطيدة بين وظائف المخ والسلوك الإنساني على اختلاف أنواعه في سوائه ومرضه. ويمثل الكتاب أهمية خاصة لطلاب علم النفس وطلبة الدراسات العليا الذين يهتمون بدراسة هذا الجانب الذي يعد من أكثر الجوانب الإكلينيكية التي تهتم بها مدارس علم النفس الحديثة والتي تندرج تحت ما يسمى بالعلوم العصبية. وتأتي هذه الطبعة بعد مرور ما يقارب العشر سنوات من ظهور الطبعة الأولى تغيرت فيها الكثير من المفاهيم وبرزت فيها العديد من نتائج الدراسات الميدانية في مجال اضطرابات السلوك. ومن ثم تحاول هذه الطبعة إلقاء المزيد من الضوء على الحقائق العلمية التي تكشفت في هذا المجال عبر هذه السنوات، والتي تلقى بظلالها على فهمنا للأسس العصبية للسلوك خاصة في مجال اللغة والذاكرة والوظائف الانفعالية والتفكير والتخطيط وغير ذلك. وقد حاول المؤلف بعد استعراض الأطر النظرية التي تتناول كل هذه الوظائف أن يقدم عرضاً لأسس التقييم النيوروسيكولوجي، وكيفية اختيار بطاريات التقييم المختلفة، مع عرض لبعض هذه البطاريات. كما حاول المؤلف ان يستعرض تطبيقات التقييم النيوروسيكووجي على مستوى الوظائف المخية للمناطق التشريحية المختلفة، وعلى مستوى الحالات الإكلينيكية بشكل عام وتقييم الأطفال وكبار السن بشكل خاص. والمؤلف مع هذه الإضافات يأمل أن تكون هذه الطبعة الجديدة من الكتاب معيناً أكبر لكل الزملاء العاملين في هذا المجال، وبالطبع لكل دارسي هذا العلم من طلاب جامعتنا العربية. ويبقى كل الشكر لكل من ساهم بالنقد البناء للطبعة الأولى، ولولا هذه المساهمات ربما ظلت الطبعة الأولى من الكتاب دون أدنى تغيير.
