هذا الكتاب سَفرٌ قيم في أنساب وقبائل وعشائر العرب من قحطانيين وعدنانيين، ومن هؤلاء قبيلة (بني اسد) إحدى القبائل العربية العدنانية الأصيلة من عرب الجزيرة والحجار، كان لها تاريخها المشرَف في كل الميادين، ولها كذلك الأثر البالغ في الحفاظ على لغة العرب وسائر مكارم الأخلاق في المة العربية قبل الإسلام وبعده، ويكفي قبيلة (بني أسد) شرفاً قرابتها لرسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) حيث أن أسداً هو ابن خزيمة هو والد اسد وكنانة التي انحدر رسول الله وآل بيته منها. حيث كان لبني أسد الرأي والمشورة على كل العرب، فإن أشارت أسد قبل العرب ما اشارت به وإن عارضت عارضته العرب. وفيهم قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم): أسد لسان مضر، وكنانة عيناها، وتميم كاهلها، وقريض حجمتها.
لذلك كله جاء هذا الكتاب بخط أحد أبناءها النجباء محمد جواد عبد الله جواد الأسدي، وقد أنجز هذا السَفر العظيم وبهذه الحلة القشيبة من حيث التحقيق والتنظيم والاخراج.
بعد مقدمة التحقيق، توزع الكتاب على عشرة فصول: الأول منها في نبذة عن أهل العرب وأسماء القبائل وأحوالها، والثاني: في نبذة عن قحطاه وجذمة وسد أرب، مع التعريف بالعرب القحطانيون والعرب العدنانيون وغيرهم من القبائل المندثرة، وخصص الفصل الثالث: لقبيلة بني اسد ومنازلها في الإسلام وتحدث الفصل الرابع عن معارك بنو أسد وصولاً إلى: بنو أسد وثورة العشرين في العراق. وكشف الفصل الخامس عن شخصيات وقصص عاشها بنو أسد وعن ينو أسد في واقعة الطف تحدث الفصل السادس، واحتوى الفصل السابع على سير لخمسون شخصية من بنو أسد ومنهم رجال أدب وشعر وفروسية وخصص الفصل الثامن لشخصيات من بنو اسد في العصر الحديث وجاء الفصل التاسع في أحوال وأنساب القبائل والعشائر والأسر العراقية حسب الحروف الهجائية وضم الفصل العاشر والأخير مشجرات العوائل والقبائل العربية ومنهم بنو اسد.
