بالإضافة إلى عمق قصده، وبُعْد غوره، وصعوبة مادته العلمية، وما يحيط بها من محاذير منهجية عند استعمال المفهوم، ومعرفية عند الكشف عن مختلف التأثيرات المذهبية، والفكرية، التي شكلته، وأثرت في تكوين وحداته- هو اقتحام من الاقتحام... نقول: إن هذا البحث اقتحام من الاقتحام؛ لأن موضوعه مطلق في الزمان وممتد في المكان، وعام في الأشخاص، لارتباطه بمفهوم يراد تحديده، وأثر مرتبط به يراد الكشف عنه، وما يترتب عن التحديد والكشف من إعادة كتابة علم الأصول. غير أن هذا العموم صعب- عقلًا وطبعًا- تحقيقُه وإنجازُه، ومن ثَمَّ كان من الضروري تقييد الموضوع تقييدًا لا يخل بالمقصود، به يرفع الحرج، ويمنع تكليف ما لا يطاق، وقد مضى عند علماء الأصول أن العام الذي لا يتصور عقلًا عمومه يُحمل على الخصوص ابتداءًا. ولما تعددت المقيدات؛ تبين أن أسلم طريق هو اختيار نماذج للدراسة، والضابط لهذا الاختيار هو حضور المذاهب الفقهية والعقدية، لما للاتجاه الفقهي أو العقدي من أثر بالغ في تحديد قضايا علم الأصول وبيان منهج الاعتبار والإلغاء، الذي يقصد هذا البحث الكشف عنه.
