في كتابه الثاني (ديرمافوريا) الذي صدر عام 2005، لا يبتعد كريج كليفنجر كثيراً عن عالم المخدرات الذي قدمه في كتابه الأول. ديرمافوريا لفظة مخلفة تحمل معنى الحالة النفسية التي يخلقها الجلد. هنا نقابل (إريك أشوورث) الكيميائي العبقري شبه المجنون، الذي لا يمكن الاستغناء عنه في سوق المخدرات لأنه ابتكر مخدراً فعالاً اسمه (الجلد) أو (اللمسة) أو (المهد). تبدأ القصة بهذا الكيميائي فاقد الذاكرة بعد حريق أطاح بمختبره ويبدو أنه فقد معلوماته الكيميائية، لكن أحداً لا يصدق هذا أو يجازف بتصديقه. رجال الشرطة يحاصرونه بأسئلتهم، والمحامي ينصحه بالصمت، ورجال شبكة المخدرات يلاحقونه. لكنه يملك بصيصاً يحاول استرجاع القطاع الذي احترق في ذاكرته.
من الواضح تماماً أن المؤلف ملم بالمخدرات بشدة، وهو لا يتعامل معها بالطريقة البوليسية المعتادة، بل من خلال مفهوم كيميائي معقد.. تخليقها.. تأثيرها.. الإتجار فيها. لابد أن هذه الرواية اقتضت بحثاً مدققاً، كما أنه على علم بآليات هذا العالم السفلي، والمختبرات السرية التي تعمل في الظل في بقاع نائية في الصحراء، مع إجراءات أمن شديدة التعقيد يصعب إختراقها بالفعل.
