يتناول هذا الكتاب الإجراءات التمريضية للمرضى النفسي فيبدأ بالمقابلة للمريض النفسي موضحاً ماهي المقابلة وفنياتها وقواعدها ودلالاتها ثم يشير الى الدور الثانوي لمرضى الصحة النفسية والعقلية تجاه المريض مبيناً القانون الممارسة المهنية وشروط الاعتماد ومعايير الأداء المهني والجوانب القانونية في الممارسة مهنة التمريض مبيناً السلوكيات المخالفة للقانون والممارسات الصحية المتعلقة بالقانون مركزاً على حقوق المريض الخلقية ويعرف في الوحدة الرابعة الصحة الأمراض النفسية معدداً لهذه الأمراض وأسبابها وتشخيصها كالقلق النفسي وأقسام والمظاهر الجسمية والاجتماعية والعاطفية للقلق المرضى النفسية والمظاهر الجسمية والاجنماعية لكل نوع والاضطرابات النفسية المصاحبة للمزاج.
وينتقل الى اضطرابات التفكير وتعريفه وأقسام وأسباب ودور التشخيص في الإصابة والنظريات الفسيولوجية العصبة والنظريات النفسية ودور الفصام في اضطرابات التفكير والوصف الإكانيكي للفصام وأنماط الفصام، ويشير الى اضطرابات الشخصية مبيناً ماهية الشخصية وسمات الشخصية المضطربة وأشكالها ونماذج خاصة من اضطرابات الشخصية.
ثم ينتقل إلى تقييم احتمال الانتحار حيث يعرف الانتحار وانواعه والعوامل المسببة له والمظلهر الجسمية للانتحار والمظاهر السلوكية والعاطفة والمعرفة والاجتماعية للانتحار ثم يذكر الاضطرابات العقلية العضوية فيعرفها ويبين أنواعها كا لخرف والهذيان وخرف الشيوخة والدمان تاكحولي والهلاويس الكحولية والاضطرابات العقلي الكحولي والتهاب المخ الوبائي والاضطرابات الفعلية المرتبطة بالدم والاضطرابات العقلي المرتبط بالدماغ وتناول في الوحدة الأخيره تقييم استعمال الدواء وتقييم سوء استعمال المواد.
