تعتبر هذه المادة تكملة للمفاهيم الأساسية المستخدمة في البحث وكذا خطوات البحث الخمس وأدوات جمع البيانات، لأنه من المهم جدا تمكين الطلبة من مواصلة التعرف على معالجة البيانات باستخدام الأساليب الإحصائية المختلفة: كيفية جمع وتصنيف البيانات وقياسها وإيجاد العلاقات بينها… مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار استعمال الحاسوب والبرامج المعلوماتية المعدة للعلوم الاجتماعية عموما.
وبذلك يكون الطلبة قد تعرفوا على معظم مكونات العملية البحثية بدءاً بالتفكير في مشكلة البحث وانتهاء بمعالجة البيانات وتحلياها وتفسيرها باستخدام أهم الأساليب الإحصائية الوصفية والكمية، والتي حاولنا توصيفها ودعم شرحها بأمثلة واقعية ومن صلب أحد التخصصات الجامعية في العلوم الاجتماعية: علوم الإعلام والاتصال.
كما حاولنا مراعاة البساطة والوضوح في عرض ما رصدناه وجمعناه مما تيسر لنا من مراجع متخصصة حول موضوع مهم لذاته وللعديد من العلوم (الاقتصادية، الاجتماعية، النفسية، الإعلامية، الصحية…) في بعدها التطبيقي الذي أصبحت تستعمله بل لا يمكنها الاستغناء عنه.
فتقنيات تحليل البيانات لا تهتم فقط بجمع وتنظيم وعرض البيانات الخاصة بدراسة الظواهر الطبيعية والاجتماعية، بل تهتم كذلك بتحليلها واشتقاق النتائج العلمية منها عن طريق مقاييس ومتوسطات ومعاملات واختبارات…
هذه النتائج التي يمكن الاعتماد عليها في ترشيد قرارات الإنسان وتحسين تواصله الاجتماعي والسياسي والثقافي بغية إصلاح مجتمعه وترقية حضارته الإنسانية.
