يركز هذا الكتاب على الرؤى والفلسفات التي أنتجت الشعرية الحديثة وساهمت في تكوين مناهج النقد العربي التقليدي والحداثي وأدت بالتالي إلى تكوين الحداثة الأدبية العربية. وهو يسعى إلى تقديم رؤية نقدية حول الشعرية التي تعنى بدراسة الأجناس الأدبية والأشكال وتصنيفاتها الأيديولوجية والصيغ والأساليب، كما يسعى إلى تقييم الدراسات الأدبية العربية في تعاملها مع المفاهيم المترجمة والنظريات النقدية التي تنادي بالحداثة من أجل تطوير المجتمع وبناء عالم أفضل.
يأتي اهتمام هذا الكتاب بموضوع الشعرية في ظل الاستخدام الخاطئ لهذا المفهوم في كثير من الدراسات العربية السابقة التي تناولت هذا المفهوم دامجةً بين دراسات الشعر والشعرية بوصفها دراسة لمناهج دراسة الأدب والشعر، وتحليل النصوص بحثاً عن جمالياتها وفقاً لمباحث علم الدلالة واللسانيات الحديثة.
يتضمن الكتاب تمهيداً وثلاثة فصول، فضلاً عن المقدمة والخاتمة. يعرض التمهيد "الاتجاهات الشعرية (الأصول والمفاهيم)"، ويعالج الفصل الأول "الشعرية في الموروث العربي"، ثم يتناول الفصل الثاني "الشعرية والحداثة"، أما الفصل الثالث فيبحث في "شعرية التجنيس".
