من خلال آيات كثيرة في القرآن الكريم، يتبين لنا بشكل واضح وجلي أن السحر نوع من التخييل وخفة اليد والحركة "سحروا أعين الناس واسترهبوهم"، فالساحر يخيل للرائي أشياء يراها ويوهمه بأنها حقيقية، وهي في حقيقة الأمر خيال. والساحر يرى الأشياء على حقيقتها ويخيل لغيره ما يريده من أشياء "يخيل إليه من سحرهم أنها تسعى"، والدليل على ذلك أن سحرة فرعون لما ألقوا حبالهم وعصيبهم، إذا بعصا موسى عليه السلام تلقف ما صنعوا من سحر، فقالوا على الفور "آمنا برب هارون وموسى": لأنهم يعرفون السحر، وهم أساتذة فيه. فلو كان ما فعله موسى سحراً لغلبوه بسحرهم، إنما عرفوا أن هذه هي الحقيقة فآمنوا برب هارون وموسى.
وهذا الكتاب يكسف أسرار السحر والسحرة ويبين دجلهم وزيفهم في ادعاءاتهم وقد جعله مؤلفه في ثلاثة فصول:
الفصل الأول: ويشمل السحر والسحرة، والسحر من السبع الموبقات حذر منها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في قوله: "اجتنبوا السبع الموبقات".. قالوا: يا رسول الله وما الموبقات؟ قال: "الشرك بالله، والسحر، وقتل النفس التي حرم الله إلا بالحق، وأكل الربا، وأكل مال اليتيم، والتولي يوم الزحف، وقذف المحصنات المؤمنات الغافلات".
الفصل الثاني: ويشمل موقف الإسلام من الاستخارة الشرعية والغير الشرعية والاستعانة بقارئة الفنجان والكف والودع وضارب الرمل وكشف ألاعيبهم ودجلهم وكذبهم.
الفصل الثالث: ويشمل الدعاء من القرآن والسنة.
