يدور موضوع الكتاب حول أسباب ضعف التحصيل الدراسي لدى الطالب وطرق علاجه. وضع الكتاب الدكتور رسمي علي عابد من الأردن وعالج الموضوع من منظور أخلاقي قيمي يرتبط بقوة أو ضعف الدين، حيث أورد للقارىء حالات من عصر الأوائل الذين وقع لهم الإيمان في نفوسهم وزادهم حباً في التعلّم.
إلى ذلك، يتطرق الكتاب إلى بحث موضوع ضعف التحصيل الدراسي من وجهة نظر علم النفس وعلم التربية وطرائق التدريس، مع تقديم (نماذج) من طرائق التدريس الحديثة.
توزع الكتاب على سبعة فصول تحدث الفصل الأول عن: جذور الضعف الدراسي تاريخياً وهي الضعف (الفكري – السياسي – العقائدي) بينما تحدث الفصل الثاني عن: أنماط سلوكية تعليمية تؤثر على التحصيل (مرحلة الشباب). وخصص الفصل الثالث لـ: تدني التحصيل في اللغة العربية (النحو – التعبير – الإملاء – البلاغة – والنقد الأدبي ...). وتناول الفصل الرابع موضوع: التربية الإسلامية، وبحث في (الإختبارات التحصيلية). وكان الفصل الخامس عن: تدريس الرياضيات في مسار معالجة ضعف التحصيل، وبحث في أساليب التعليم واستراتيجياته. أما عن المناهج الدراسية وأسباب ضعفها فبحثه الفصل السادس. وأخيراً: أسباب ضعف التحصيل في مادة العلوم، وطرق اختبار طريقة التدريس المناسبة، وأساليب تطوير عملية التحصيل الدراسي كانت مدار البحث في الفصل السابع من الكتاب.
