للفلسفة الإسلامية مكانة بارزة ومرموقة في تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي عامة. وقد تعرضت هذه الفلسفة للنقد والطعن والتجريح من العديد من الدارسين غربيين وشرقيين، ونالت إستحسان وإعجاب الآخرين، وكان الدارسون في موقفهم منها على فريقين، فمنهم من يرى عدم وجود فلسفة إسلامية مبدعة ومنتجة، بل هي فلسفة تابعة، كونه يرى يونانية وغربية الفلسفة، وأنه يقول بمعجزة العقل اليوناني والغربي والفريق الآخر يرى أصالة الفلسفة الإسلامية وأنها ذات قيمة إسلامية وأن هذه الفلسفة بنت البيئة والظروف الداخلية للمجتمع الإسلامي، وللعقل المسلم مكانته ودوره البارز في تاريخ الفكر. وقد قدمت وأنجبت الفلسفة الإسلامية فلسفة كبار كان لهم الشأن والفضل الكبير ليس على الفكر الفلسفي العربي والإسلامي فحسب، بل والفلسفة الإنسانية عموماً.
ونحن هنا نقدم للفلسفة فيلسوف أشغل الدنيا وما زال شاغلها بذكره وفكره، وهو يمثل حلقة أساسية من سلسلة الفسلفة الإسلامية وفلاسفة الإسلام العظام، ونحن إذ نقدم لهذا الفيلسوف وفلسفته فإننا نرى فيه كما رأى المفكرون والفلاسفة والأدباء. فيلسوف الإسلام المعاصر بلا منازع، وإنه نال إعجاب وإطراء وثناء العديد من قادة وزعماء الفكر والأدب والسياسة، إن هذا الفيلسوف هو محمد إقبال.
