نويسنده اين كتاب، خانم ويتاسكويل وست (1892ـ 1962) شاعر و نويسنده انگليسي تبار است كه دوبار به ايران سفر كرد .نخستين بار در اوايل سال 1916 به همراهي همسرش هارولد نيكلسون ـ كه قنسول انگليس در تهران بود ـ به ايران سفر كرد . گفتني است ترجمه گزارش اين سفر با عنوان "مسافر تهران" در سالهاي 1374 و 1375 به زبان فارسي چاپ و منتشر شد .وي براي دومين بار در نيمه دوم سلطنت رضاشاه به اي نويسنده اين كتاب، خانم ويتاسكويل وست (1892ـ 1962) شاعر و نويسنده انگليسي تبار است كه دوبار به ايران سفر كرد .نخستين بار در اوايل سال 1916 به همراهي همسرش هارولد نيكلسون ـ كه قنسول انگليس در تهران بود ـ به ايران سفر كرد . گفتني است ترجمه گزارش اين سفر با عنوان "مسافر تهران" در سالهاي 1374 و 1375 به زبان فارسي چاپ و منتشر شد .وي براي دومين بار در نيمه دوم سلطنت رضاشاه به ايران آمد و طي آن به تدوين اين گزارش همت گمارد .در اين گزارش، نامبرده تصويري از اوضاع و احوال ايلي و نظام عشايري خانها و قبايل بختياري در آن دوران به دست ميدهد، افزون بر آن، حوادث و اقدامات عشاير و قبايل بختياري را در دوره مذكور به تفصيل بيان ميكند .مترجم درباره ويژگيهاي كتاب مينويسد: "چون نويسنده زن است و شاعر رمانتيك، تابلوهايي كه از طبيعت و ايلات كوچگر در اين كتاب آورده، چنان با روح، پر احساس، زنده و لطيفاند كه خواننده را شيفته ميكنند...در رهگذر خود از هيچ چيز سرسري نميگذرد به همه چيز دل ميبندد، به ويژه به آدمها، به شادماني و اندوهشان و به حال و روزگار چادرنشينهاي بيابانگرد در كوچيدن توان فرساشان...كتابش از بررسي اجتماعي و مردم شناسي نيز بيبهره نيست .خانهاي بختياري آن دوران را هم به ما ميشناساند." در لابهلاي كتاب عكسهايي از مناطق و عشاير بختياري به چاپ رسيده است
