"كنت فقط أتساءل: كيف يمكنها جدل الجريد، وترتيب هذا النسيج وهي لا تراه، وقت كنت أصغر كنت أتعمد أن أنحشر في حجرها فيما يداها تحضناني وتمتدان للجريد، وأنا أنقب بعيني الجائعتين في صفحتي عينيها الرماديتين عن بؤبؤ نافع يبرر عملها المتقن.. ولا أفلح في شيء سوى الاستمتاع بهزها فخذيها وأنا هناك.
لا تنبس يداها في الضحويات الواسعة سوى عن هتاف أصابعها بتسبيح دافئ، أو اخضرار باهت ينساب بين بلح يديها المخصبتين.. يمتد جدائل عريضة تخاتلها شرائط الكتاب الجهيرة الألوان بحيث لا يبدو الجريد متوحداً تحت الضوء، وإذا استطاعت الجدائل بقدر كافٍ عادت تعقصها دوائر ملولبة متحاضنة ينشب رأس السفلى في قعر العليا مخلب من جريد حاد، وهكذا حتى تناديني لأحمل نتاج الضحى: سفرة أنيقة من الجريد.. كل هذا وهي لا ترى، تنبس يداها سفرا تكفي الحيّ كله، وتنبس شفة حيرتي وأنا أرقب الدوائر، في إحدى حيراتي تلك سألتها كيف حدث وفقدت بصرها، قالت: إنها أحست به يتضاءل.. ينقبض كالضوء المغادر، وفي ذلك الوقت لا يمكن أن يجزم أحد بحل ناجع، كانت أبصارهم تذهب جملة، وخيط الضوء الذي يستدق مع الوقت ينفلت فجأة من فضائهم لتسكنهم دكنة خليطة الملامح، وببساطة يصبحون عمياناً...
