في هذه الرواية المستوحاة من حياة كاتبتها الشخصية، تنقلنا روخاس كونتريراس بين قصتين مختلفتين للغاية، لكنهما على ارتباط لا انفصال فيه. وتسلط الضوء على الخيارات المستحيلة التي غالباً ما تضطر النساء إلى اتخاذها في مواجهة العنف والصلات غير المتوقعة التي يمكن أن تزهر طالعةً من اليأس.
