تجري أحداث المسرحيّة في مصحّ للأمراض العقليّة، عندما تحدث جريمة قتل داخل المصحّ، ما يُضطر المحقّق إلى إجراء معاينة لمكان الجريمة والتحقيق مع الموجودين: الموظفين والنزلاء.
يبدو أنّ النزلاء هم "علماء في الفزياء". يأخذ التحقيق منحىً كوميديّاً في شكله الخارجي، لكنّه في مضمونه فلسفيّ عميق وغامض.
