هانس شخصیت ویژه و قابل بحثی دارد. وقتی در مجله مانکنها عکس مادر هانس را میبینند و متوجه میشوند که او در یونان زندگی میکند، پدر خانواده تصمیم میگیرد به جستوجوی همسرش بر داستان راز فال ورق، درباره پسری به نام هانس توماس است که مادرش سالها قبل همسر و فرزندش را ترک کرده. دلیلی که نویسنده برای این کار مادر میآورد، این است که او در جستوجوی هویت گمشدهاش به سفر رفته است.
