جاء في التمهيد :
"كنا قد عقدنا النية ,قبل نحو عشرة أعوام ,على وضع كتاب كامل يشمل تاريخ جميع كنائس حلب ومعابدها منذ أوائل النصرانية حتى يومنا هذا. وقد وفقنا الله في هذا العمل فتم الكتاب ,ولكنه بقي مخطوطا في خزائننا,بأمل نشره يوما ما إذا ما سنحت الظروف.
على أننا في هذه الأثناء سلّمنا إدارة نشرة أبرشية الروم الكاثوليك بعض الفصول من ذاك الكتاب , فاستساغها القراء ورغبوا إلينا أن جاء في التمهيد :

على أننا في هذه الأثناء سلّمنا إدارة نشرة أبرشية الروم الكاثوليك بعض الفصول من ذاك الكتاب , فاستساغها القراء ورغبوا إلينا أن نجمعها في كرّاس واحد سهل المنال , حرصا عليها من الضياع. فلبينا رغبتهم, وطلبنا من إدارة النشرة أن تعنى بجمع هذه الفصول في سحب خاص , فتألف منها هذا الكتيب الذي يسرنا أن نهديه لجميع المولعين بالتاريخ والآثار القديمة في حلب , عله يحمل غيرنا على المزيد من البحث والتنقيب في هذا المضمار . "
