ويتخذ الكاتب نموذجين أو أيقونتين في الجمال أو امرأتين تأتيان من عالمين مختلفين: عالم الروح "شولميث" بطلة قصائد سفر نشيد الإنشاد النشيد الأشهر في الحب الرومانسي والعلاقة الحميمة بين الزوجين والروحانية الراقية إلى حد التصوف، وعالم الدنيا: "سندريلا" بطلة القصص الخيالية الشهيرة، والمثال الأشهر للجمال المقهور.
ويتكون الكتاب من ستة فصول مليئة بالمغامرات والأسئلة والغور في مناطق شتى، تحاول الوصول إلى نتائج مرجوة وصائبة.
