تأتى هذه الدراسة المتواضعة لفك غموض أمور كثيرة فى تاريخ الليبيين القديم, وتأكيد مشاركتهم فى أغلب حروب قرطاجة, قوة أساسية فاعلة, إعتمدت عليها قرطاجة إعتماداً كبيراً, منذ أن وطئت أقدام الفينيقيين أرض ليبيا, إلى تدمير قرطاجة وإزالتها من فوق وجه الأرض على نحو مؤلم سنة 146 ق.م على أيدى الرومان, وهذا يعنى أن الليبيين كانوا ذوى خبرة حربية, فقد تميزوا بقدراتهم القتالية خلال مشاركتهم مع الجيوش المصرية والبطلمية والفارسية, فكانونا يتسلحون بأسلحة عالية التقنية, مقارنة بما هو متوافر فى تلك الفترة.
وقد لجأت إلى جانب المصادر القديمة (الإغريقية والرومانية), للدلائل المادية التى عثرت عليها البعثات الأثرية المختصة بالتنقيب والحفريات, كلما أتيحت الفرصة, وعلى الأخص تلك البعثات التى إهتمت بتاريخ الجرامنتس, بإعتبارهم من أهم القبائل الليبية التى شاركت فى حروب قرطاجة بعرباتها وأبنائها وفرسانها, كما إعتمدت هذه الدراسة على مكتشفات ودراسات أثرية سابقة.
وسأقسم هذه الدراسة إلى خمسة فصول على النحو التالى: الفصل الأول وعنوانه: الليبيون ومجئ الفينيقيين إلى ليبيا. أما الفصل الثانى فعنوانه: الليبيون وتجربة الجيوش المرتزقة. وفى الفصل الثانى الذى عنوانه: فصائل الجند الليبيين فلا جيش قرطاجة. وسوف أخصص الفصل الرابع للحديث عن أسلحة الجند الليبيين فى جيش قرطاجة. وفى الفصل الخامس والأخير المرسوم: بـ ثورات الجند الليبيين فى جيش قرطاجة.
