كلنا نعلم أن الظروف الحالية في هذا العالم ليست سعيدة ولا ممتعة أو هنيئة أو مبهجة، لكنها تمثل دون شك النتيجة الحتمية لعمل قانون السببية.
لقد سببنا بظهور حالات معينة عبر التاريخ البشري وعلينا أن ندفع حتماً ضريبة الأخطاء التي اقترفناها.
نحن نرغب دائماً في الإيمان بالخير، لكن بعد أن ننظر حولنا لا نجد أي دلائل مباشرة على وجود الخير.
لكن في الحقيقة، السبب الرئيسي لهذا الوضع البائس كلنا نعلم أن الظروف الحالية في هذا العالم ليست سعيدة ولا ممتعة أو هنيئة أو مبهجة، لكنها تمثل دون شك النتيجة الحتمية لعمل قانون السببية.

لكن في الحقيقة، السبب الرئيسي لهذا الوضع البائس يكمن فينا، لقد قمنا بتجاهل فكرة السبب الجوهري خلف حياة الإنسان، نحن هنا لكي نخدم ونتعلم، لكن بدلاً من ذلك أصبحنا طموحين للكسب والحوزة.
وخلال عملية الحيازة والكسب سمحنا لأنفسنا أن نفسد كل معيار أخلاقي كامن في داخلنا، لقد أهملنا الإستماع لصوت الضمير، وفشلنا في التعلم من حكمة العصور، وهذه في الحقيقة ليست وضعية ممتعة.
من هنا، يبرز السؤال الأهم: كيف يمكننا الخلاص من هذه الحالة اليائسة التي وقعنا فيها؟ هل من سبيل للخلاص، أم أننا رهائن لقدر محتوم؟ هذا ما سنتعرف عليه في هذا الكتاب.
