عمل وكيلاً لوزارة المالية في المملكة العربية السعودية وترأس العديد من مجالس إدارة الشركات والبنوك السعودية.
صدرت له أربعة كتب أحدها باللغة الإنكليزية عن الساقي – لندن بعنوان: The banking System and its performance In Saudi Arabia.
قام بالتدريس في الجامعات الأميركية وانضم في عام 2011 م إلى جامعة أكسفورد – معهد دراسات الطاقة – كباحث زائر (Visiting Research Fellow).

في عام 1933، أي قبل اكتشاف النفط، واجه الملك عبد العزيز، مؤسس المملكة العربية السعودية، أزمة مالية حادّة كادت، حسب قول نائب القنصل الأميركي حينذاك، أن "يعجل بانهيار نظامه". وقد نبّه محللون غربيون إلى أن المملكة لن تكون قادرة على تزويد العالم بالنفط إلى الأبد، وأن ثمّة أزمة نفطية تلوح في الأفق. فهل يعيد التاريخ نفسه ويُدخل المملكة في أزمة مالية أخرى نتيجة للإنفاق المفرط أو لهبوط حاد في إيرادات النفط؟
يرى المؤلّف أن جميع الاعتبارات تثير إمكانية أزمة مالية محتملة إذا استمر الوضع الراهن على ما هو عليه. ولكنه، في الوقت نفسه، يرى أنها ليست حتمية، وأن المملكة العربية السعودية قادرة على تلافي الكارثة إذا ما قامت بإصلاحات جادة.
