من الضروري إذن والحالة هذه أن ندرس بعناية المصير التقليدي للمرأة. كيف تتلقى شروط حياتها الجديدة، كيف تتمرس عليها وفي أي عالم تجد نفسها حبيسة، وما هي وسائل هروبها وعزوفها عنه... هذا ما سأحاول وصفه. وسيكون في وسعنا بعد ذلك أن نتفهم المشاكل المطروحة أمام المرأة، هذه الإنسانة المناضلة التي ترزخ تحت عبء وراثة ماضي ثقيل ضخم محاولة دون كلل أو ملل أن تشق لنفسها طريقاً جديداً يحررها من عبوديتها.
إن هذا الكتاب لا يرمي إلى سرد حقائق أزلية ثابتة، وإنما يحصر هدفه في وصف المحتوى المشترك الذي ترتكز عليه كل حياة نسوية خاصة.
