لقد تناولت هذه الدراسة وموضوعها دور تعليم الكبار في التنمية المستدامة وتحقيق متطلبات مجتمع المعرفة، مفهوم التنمية المستدامة والمبادئ الرئيسية التي تستند إليها، والعلاقة بين المكونات المختلفة لها. ثم عرضت إلى مفهوم مجتمع المعرفة وبيّنت خصائصه وأبعاده والدور الذي يمكن أن يلعبه تعليم الكبار في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة وفي تحقيق متطلبات مجتمع المعرفة. وقد اعتمدت الدراسة على الم لقد تناولت هذه الدراسة وموضوعها دور تعليم الكبار في التنمية المستدامة وتحقيق متطلبات مجتمع المعرفة، مفهوم التنمية المستدامة والمبادئ الرئيسية التي تستند إليها، والعلاقة بين المكونات المختلفة لها. ثم عرضت إلى مفهوم مجتمع المعرفة وبيّنت خصائصه وأبعاده والدور الذي يمكن أن يلعبه تعليم الكبار في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة وفي تحقيق متطلبات مجتمع المعرفة. وقد اعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي، وذلك بتوظيف أدبيات التنمية المستدامة.
ناولت الدراسة أثر برامج تعليم الكبار في تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة مستفيدة من مجال الفرص التعليمية المتاحة للكبار، في ولاية الخرطوم (نموذجا) باستخدام مناهج جديدة متطورة وطرائق تدريس فعالة. نبعت أهمية الدراسة من الدور الكبير المناط ببرامج تعليم الكبار والقدرة على تطوير المناهج المقررة لهذه البرامج وأن تكون مرتبطة بالأهداف المرغوبة. وقد هدفت الدراسة إلى الوقوف على برامج تعليم الكبار وأثرها في تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة.
