يبين هذا الكتاب أن البترول لم ينشأ إلا بفعل تحقق ظروف جيولوجية ذات خصوصية متميزة ، و بالتالي فإنه لا يمكن العثور عليه في كل أرجاء المعمورة و لا يتوزع بالتساوي على كل بقاع العالم. و كما هو معروف ، يمتلك الشرق الأوسط حوالي نصف كمية البترول التي لا تزال متاحة للعالم ، و كانت حقبة اكتشاف النفط في العقود الأولى من القرن العشرين وبالا على الدول العربية، فلم تؤجج الصراعات بوعي أو يبين هذا الكتاب أن البترول لم ينشأ إلا بفعل تحقق ظروف جيولوجية ذات خصوصية متميزة ، و بالتالي فإنه لا يمكن العثور عليه في كل أرجاء المعمورة و لا يتوزع بالتساوي على كل بقاع العالم. و كما هو معروف ، يمتلك الشرق الأوسط حوالي نصف كمية البترول التي لا تزال متاحة للعالم ، و كانت حقبة اكتشاف النفط في العقود الأولى من القرن العشرين وبالا على الدول العربية، فلم تؤجج الصراعات بوعي أو عن قصد فحسب ، بل جردت الشعوب من حقها في تقرير مصيرها أيضا، و ذلك من خلال طرق التدليس و سبل الخداع و وسائل الهيمنة التي انتهجتها الشركات العملاقة و دولها الأم.
و إذا ما أخذنا بعين الاعتبار تأكيد هذا الكتاب أن الخبراء قد اكتشفوا معظم البترول الكامن في جوف الأرض، و أن النفط الذي ستستهلكه البشرية بدءا من الآن أو بدءا من سنوات وجيزة لا تتعدى أصابع اليد الواحدة ، لن يكون في الإمكان التعويض عنه من خلال اكتشاف حقول نفطية جديدة إلا بالكاد ، أي أن البشرية قد أشرفت على الاستهلاك من رأسمالها، فلا ريب في أننا سنحيط علما بخلفيات الأزمة السائدة حاليا في سوق النفط و بشدة الأزمات التي ستخيم على هذا السوق مستقبلا.
