كتب الفيلسوف الكندي "برنارد سوتس" كتاباً مرحاً حمل عنوان الجندب: الألعاب والحياة واليوتوبيا؛ حيث نرى في الكتاب جندباً سقراطياً يسعى إلى إثبات أهمية اللعب وقيمته؛ إذ كتب أن اللعبة "محاولة طوعية لاجتياز عقبات لا لزوم لها"؛ ولكن لماذا نضع عقبات لا لزوم لها بهدف اجتيازها؟
يقول "ستيوارت براون" - مؤسس مركز اللعب الوطني في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية - إننا نفعل ذلك لأن اللعب "جوهر الحياة الضروري" و "أساس ما نعده حضارة".
ويشاطره الرأي جندب سوتس؛ إذ يقول إن اللعب هو الخير الداخلي الأسمى؛ إذ سيكون لعب الألعاب النشاط المركزي في اليوتوبيا.
يصعب إنكار أهمية اللعب؛ سواءً كانت لعبة أساسية أومجرد لعبة عابرة؛ فمهما كان الأمر؛ فلا ضير من أخذ نصيحة الجندب التي تقول: من حينٍ إلى آخر، اخرج وألعب
