يتعرض الكتاب إلى قضية مقلقة وعميقة حيث يتساءل عن طبيعة الإنسان وعن الدماغ البشري والوعي، وعن مدى تفرده عن باقي المخلوقات الأخرى سواء الحيوانية منها أو الاصطناعية كالحاسوب.
وإذا كان الكاتب ينطلق من مشكلة لا زال البعض عندنا يناقشها ويتفلسف بشأنها: مشكلة أصل الإنسان وعلاقة ذلك بالمادة والروح، فهي بالنسبة إليه محسومة علميا، حيث يضع تحليله منذ البداية في إطار النظرية التطورية ال يتعرض الكتاب إلى قضية مقلقة وعميقة حيث يتساءل عن طبيعة الإنسان وعن الدماغ البشري والوعي، وعن مدى تفرده عن باقي المخلوقات الأخرى سواء الحيوانية منها أو الاصطناعية كالحاسوب.
وإذا كان الكاتب ينطلق من مشكلة لا زال البعض عندنا يناقشها ويتفلسف بشأنها: مشكلة أصل الإنسان وعلاقة ذلك بالمادة والروح، فهي بالنسبة إليه محسومة علميا، حيث يضع تحليله منذ البداية في إطار النظرية التطورية الداروينية، التي لا ترى في الإنسان سوى مستوى من مستويات تطور الكائن الحي، هذا الأخير الذي بدأ مع الكائن الأحادي الخلية ليصل إلى أرقى أشكاله في تركيبة الدماغ البشري. وهو إذ يتجاوز النقاش الميتافيزيقي الذي لا زال البعض غارقا فيه بشأن هذا الموضوع، يمر مباشرة إلى طرح الأسئلة الحقيقية التي تقلق بال كل العلماء المهتمين: ما الفرق أو الحد الذي يفصل بين الإنسان والحيوان الأقرب إليه في سلسلة التطور الذي هو قرد الشمبانزي؟
