بدأت الدراسات في حقل الجغرافيا السياسية في عام 1897 على يد الباحث الألماني راتزل ، و لكنها أهملت تماما بعد أن ساء صيتها نتيجة للتوظيف النازي لها ، و لم تعد إلى دائرة الضوء إلا منذ منتصف السبعينات لتصبح واحدة من الحقول الواعدة في محاولة فهم عمليات و آليات التحول السياسي على المستوى الدولي من خلال بحث العلاقات القائمة بين الحقائق المكانية للعمليات السياسية.
لقد حملت السنوات ا بدأت الدراسات في حقل الجغرافيا السياسية في عام 1897 على يد الباحث الألماني راتزل ، و لكنها أهملت تماما بعد أن ساء صيتها نتيجة للتوظيف النازي لها ، و لم تعد إلى دائرة الضوء إلا منذ منتصف السبعينات لتصبح واحدة من الحقول الواعدة في محاولة فهم عمليات و آليات التحول السياسي على المستوى الدولي من خلال بحث العلاقات القائمة بين الحقائق المكانية للعمليات السياسية.
لقد حملت السنوات القليلة الماضية عددا من التغيرات الدرامية على صعيد المعترك السياسي ، فلقد ظهرت دول جديدة على الساحة الدولية ، كما استمر التقسيم الجغرافي لعقد السبعينات من القرن العشرين في التحول. و يحاول هذا الكتاب الربط بين هذه العمليات الكونية و الخبرة اليومية ، كما يحاول تحقيق التكامل بين السياسات المتباينة المنتشرة عبر الدروع الجغرافية لكي يزودنا ، من خلال هذه المحاولة ، بمقدمة ضرورية لفهم تنامي ظاهرة العولمة و مدى تأثيرها.
و من خلال وضع التغيرات العالمية في سياق نظري يستند إلى منظور نهج تحليل النظم العالمية ، يحاول الكتاب جعل هذه التغيرات أكثر قابلية للفهم ضمن الإطار العام للتاريخ و للنمط الجغرافي للتطور السياسي للعالم.
