بالعودة لمضمون كتاب "شريعتي" هذا نجد أنه عبارة عن ترجمة لسيرة خاتم النبيين محمد صلى الله عليه وعلى آله سلم والمؤلف يعتمد في استقصاء هذه السيرة على أقدم وثائق تاريخ الإسلام، منها سيرة ابن هشام وتاريخ الطبري الذي هو النص الأساسي في هذا البحث.
ويقول المؤلف في مقدمة بحثه هذا أنه قد حاول أن لا يأتي بحثه هذا تكراراً لما قيل وكتب حول النبي، و ألا يكون إعادة لما يمكن أن يجده القارئ بالعودة لمضمون كتاب "شريعتي" هذا نجد أنه عبارة عن ترجمة لسيرة خاتم النبيين محمد صلى الله عليه وعلى آله سلم والمؤلف يعتمد في استقصاء هذه السيرة على أقدم وثائق تاريخ الإسلام، منها سيرة ابن هشام وتاريخ الطبري الذي هو النص الأساسي في هذا البحث.
ويقول المؤلف في مقدمة بحثه هذا أنه قد حاول أن لا يأتي بحثه هذا تكراراً لما قيل وكتب حول النبي، و ألا يكون إعادة لما يمكن أن يجده القارئ في كتب السيرة. كما يقول أن الرؤية التي اعتمدها في بحثه لم تنطلق من قاعدة الفكر والعقيدة التي يتبناها، بل اختار لها موقعاً محايداً للإطلال على التاريخ، حيث يطل عبره كل إنسان، مهما اختلف انتماؤه الفكري. وحيث أن ما يلتقطه الإنسان من خلال هذا الموقع، يمثل مادة نقية من أي لون من ألوان التعصب والتحيز، التي تمثل مرضاً يتعين على البحث العلمي الشفاء منه. ومن هنا كان حقاً على القارئ قبول اعتذاره بصدد اللغة، التي انتخبتها للحديث عن رسول الإسلام، إذ لم يرد عرض الطريقة التي يرى بها الإنسان المسلم "محمداً" بل أراد عرض الطريقة التي يرى بها المفكر المحايد -وهو ينظر بمنظار العلم فقط- محمداً صلى الله عليه وعلى آله سلم.
