ويعتبر أبو العباس أحمد ابن البناء المراكشي عالما جامعا، إذ إنه مجتهد في جملة من العلوم ومجدد فيها، فهو صاحب مدرسة متميزة استطاعت أن تمزج علم الكلام السني بالتصوف الفلسفي، وتقدم من خلاله رؤية منسجمة متناغمة تمثل نسقا فكريا فريدا في تاريخ الفكر الإسلاميي المغربي بل الفكر الإسلامي كله.
وكتابه "مراسم الطريقة" هذا هو الذي يبرز هذه الشخصية ويزكيها، ويبينها ويعليها، فقد اجتمعت فيه الشخصية المعرفية الكاملة لابن البناء المراكشي.
