الدرس الذي تلقننا إياه سيرة المقهورين يفيد بأن "حالة الطوارئ" التي نعيش في ظلها هي القاعدة. علينا أن نتوصل إلى مفهوم للتاريخ يتوافق مع هذه الحالة، حينها ستتجلى أمام أعيننا مهمتنا في فرض حالة الطوارئ الحقيقية؛ وبذلك يتحسن موقفنا في محاربة الفاشية. فمن ضمن ما يعطي الفاشية فرصة في الوجود أن معارضيها يتعاملون معها وكأنها سنة التاريخ. وإن الدهشة من أن ما يحدث حاليا "ما يزال" مم الدرس الذي تلقننا إياه سيرة المقهورين يفيد بأن "حالة الطوارئ" التي نعيش في ظلها هي القاعدة. علينا أن نتوصل إلى مفهوم للتاريخ يتوافق مع هذه الحالة، حينها ستتجلى أمام أعيننا مهمتنا في فرض حالة الطوارئ الحقيقية؛ وبذلك يتحسن موقفنا في محاربة الفاشية. فمن ضمن ما يعطي الفاشية فرصة في الوجود أن معارضيها يتعاملون معها وكأنها سنة التاريخ. وإن الدهشة من أن ما يحدث حاليا "ما يزال" ممكنا في القرن العشرين ليست دهشة فلسفية. هي ليست استهلالا للمعرفة، إلا إذا كانت المعرفة بأن تصور التاريخ الذي هو منبع هذه الدهشة يتعذر الوصول إليه.
