ولد الكاتب المصري حسين عيد عام 1946م، بالقاهرة ـ حاصل على بكالوريوس العلوم التجارية (محاسبة) ـ له العديد من الكتب في الإبداع القصصي والرواية- له كتب متميزة في مجال الترجمة الأدبية ـ تخصص في النقد خلال العقدين الماضيين وله 13 كتابا نقديا، منها «غارسيا ماركيز وأفول الديكتاتورية» و«مفهوم السلطة والدين في تجربة فتحي غانم الإبداعية».. آخر ما نشر «سحر الإبداع: مع كتاب عرب وأجانب».

مما لا جدال فيه أن هناك أعمالا أدبية رائعة .. تجاوزت حدود مؤلفها وحدود بيئته والمكان والزمان .. تقبل أن تكون ما اتفق عليه التلقي الإنساني بوضعها في كوكبة ''روائع الأدب العالمي في كبسولة''.. كمحاولة متواضعة لوضع ذلك الرصيد الهائل من التجارب الإنسانية الأدبية أمام الأجيال القادمة لتستلهم منها القيمة والتجربة.. ويضم هذا الجزء تسع قصص.. تأتي في بدايتها (الحب الأول) لإيفان تورجنيف حيث آلام الحب الأول وأحلامه، وتليها (24 ساعة في حياة امرأة) لاستيفان زفاييج ملقية الضوء على النزوات الأولى في الحياة، يعقبها (موت في فينيسيا) لتوماس مان، وهي تعبير عن تأمل الجمال المجرد كيفما كان، ثم تأتي قصة (الشريكان) للويجي بيراندللو، وفكرة الصداقة، وما حدودها النفسية بين الأصدقاء، وتأتي قصة (السائق المأجور) لسنكير لويس حيث المدني الغر الذي يقع فريسة دهاء قروي ماكر، بينما تأتي قصة (القيم على منارة اسبنيول) لهنريك سينكويز لتحكي العالم الصاخب الذي ينتهي إلى هدوء صامت في حياة قيم المنارة العجوز، وتحكي لنا قصة (القط الذي يمشي وحيدا) لرديارد كيبلينج سر العلاقة بين الإنسان والحيوان من قديم الزمان، ثم تأتي قصة (راسيلاس: أمير الحبشة) لصمويل جونسون لتناقش فكرة الحرية التي لا تقبل القيود حتى لو كانت قيود الملك والجاه، وأخيرا قصة (نحن) ليفجيني زمياتين لتناقش سلطوية الحكم وتسلط الثورات.
