یورگن هابرماس فیلسوف و نظریه پرداز بزرگ اجتماعی و پیشتاز نسل خود به شمار می رود. وی که در ابتدا دستیار تئودور آدورنو بود بعدها از شارحان و مفسران برجسته نسل دوم نظریه انتقادی مکتب فرانکفورت شد. اما هابرماس از بدگمانی ها و ناامیدی های پیشکسوتان خود نسبت به مدرنیته که تحت الشعاع کشتارهای دسته جمعی دوران جنگ جهانی دوم بودند بر حذر ماند و این برداشت نسبتاً روشن و مثبت وی از عق یورگن هابرماس فیلسوف و نظریه پرداز بزرگ اجتماعی و پیشتاز نسل خود به شمار می رود. وی که در ابتدا دستیار تئودور آدورنو بود بعدها از شارحان و مفسران برجسته نسل دوم نظریه انتقادی مکتب فرانکفورت شد. اما هابرماس از بدگمانی ها و ناامیدی های پیشکسوتان خود نسبت به مدرنیته که تحت الشعاع کشتارهای دسته جمعی دوران جنگ جهانی دوم بودند بر حذر ماند و این برداشت نسبتاً روشن و مثبت وی از عقلانیت نظریه های وی را از نظریه های پیشینیان او همچون مارکس، وبر، آدورنو و هورکهایمر تفکیک و متمایز می کند. آثار و نوشته های مستقیماً جامعه شناسی تر هابرماس در باره حوزه عمومی بورژوایی و در مارکسیستی ترین شق آن، در باره بحران مشروعیت در جوامع سرمایه داری صنعتی پیشرفته، منشأ آفرینش و گسترش ادبیات و آثار بسیار عظیم و انبوهی شده اند.
