«العبارات شتَّى، والمعنى واحد لا يتغير. فإلى أولئك الذين عبّدوا دروبَ الحب منذ سالف القرون، إلى طَرَفة الذي وقف ببرقة ثهمد يندب الطلول وإلى كلِّ طرَفة، إلى خولة، وإلى كلِّ من سكنتْ شغاف قلبه خولة، أقول:
أدين بدين الحب أنى توجهت
ركائبه فالحب ديني وإيماني
جميع هذه الأنشودات المختارة من تراث أمتنا الشعري جاءت في موضوع الحب، وهو أصفى علاقة وجدانية في الحياة. وهذه المقتطفات مأخوذة «العبارات شتَّى، والمعنى واحد لا يتغير. فإلى أولئك الذين عبّدوا دروبَ الحب منذ سالف القرون، إلى طَرَفة الذي وقف ببرقة ثهمد يندب الطلول وإلى كلِّ طرَفة، إلى خولة، وإلى كلِّ من سكنتْ شغاف قلبه خولة، أقول:

جميع هذه الأنشودات المختارة من تراث أمتنا الشعري جاءت في موضوع الحب، وهو أصفى علاقة وجدانية في الحياة. وهذه المقتطفات مأخوذة من مختلف مراحل الشعر العربي من أيام امرئ القيس وعنترة وطرفة حتى العصر الحديث ممثلاً بمختارات من أبي القاسم الشابي وعلي محمود طه، مروراً بشعراء العصر الأموي والعباسي والأندلسي. "
