تقدم لنا سوزي غرين، الناشطة في مجال حماية الحيوان، وجهة نظرها الشخصية في كتابها هذا، إذ تقوم بإسقاط العديد من النظريات المغلوطة حول النمر، التي تجرّعناها مع قصص الأطفال التي رويت لنا، فلطالما صوّرت النمر مخلوقاً يعيش منفرداً متحيّناً الفرصة للانقضاض على البشر، الأمر الذي يعد نقيض الواقع تماماً، إذ يشابه النمر القطط المنزلية من حيث تركيبته العائلية، وتعد تركيبته الاجتماعية معقّدة أيضاً.
بكثير من العاطفة، تطرح سوزي، في كتابها هذا، المشكلات الحالية والمتوقّعة التي تترصّد هذه المخلوقات الرائعة والمهدّدة بالانقراض، متطرّقة في ذلك إلى المشاكل المحلية المتعلقة بإدارة المحميات والمواقف السلبية التي آن الأوان لتغييرها.
