لقد كانت تعرف كل شيء عن أعمر قبل عودته من فرنسا.إذ كان موضوع حديث الفتيات أحيانا في العين و غالبا ما كانت أمه "مادام" لا تكف عن الحديث حينما تزور الخالة مالحة في دارها. فكانت ذهبية تنتظر رجوعه بنوع من المعاداة لأنها كانت متيقنة أنه لن يعيرها أي اهتمام و أنه لن يعتبرها سوى مجرد مسيحية صغيرة مرتدة عن دينها و قروية ساذجة يسهل دفعها إلى ارتكابها الخطيئة لكنها عزمت أن تلقنه درس لقد كانت تعرف كل شيء عن أعمر قبل عودته من فرنسا.إذ كان موضوع حديث الفتيات أحيانا في العين و غالبا ما كانت أمه "مادام" لا تكف عن الحديث حينما تزور الخالة مالحة في دارها. فكانت ذهبية تنتظر رجوعه بنوع من المعاداة لأنها كانت متيقنة أنه لن يعيرها أي اهتمام و أنه لن يعتبرها سوى مجرد مسيحية صغيرة مرتدة عن دينها و قروية ساذجة يسهل دفعها إلى ارتكابها الخطيئة لكنها عزمت أن تلقنه درسا لن ينساه حتى يغير تماما نظرته إليها.
و عادت بها ذاكرتها إلى يوم اللقاء الأول حينما قالت لها أمها :
تعالي يا ابنتي هذا هو ابن عمك قبلي رأسه لا تخافي. حينئذ ابتسمت مالحة و "مادام"، و اقترب ابن العم إليها و نظر إليها و انحنى بهدوء لكي تقبله على رأسه ثم أمسك يدها و لامسها بشفتيه بسرعة و دون تركيز كما لو كان ذلك يزعجه.
و عادت ذهبية إلى الدار غير راضية عن ذلك اللقاء...
