عندما يغرب عن بال العلوم الاجتماعية رسالتها النقدية ويطويها النسيان، تصبح مجرد خطابات إيديولوجية، أو تقارير خبراء مجهزة لإراحة الفكر المشترك السائد. ولكن كيف لنا أن نعرّف بدقة مقتضى النقد الذي تطمح للالتزام به؟ وكيف نعيد تأكيده في سياق البحث الراهن؟ لقد قدم أحد عشر باحثاً محاولات للإجابة مستندين إلى استقصاءات قاموا بها حول مواضيع مختلفة تماماً، بعضها عن بعض. وقد شددت تحليل عندما يغرب عن بال العلوم الاجتماعية رسالتها النقدية ويطويها النسيان، تصبح مجرد خطابات إيديولوجية، أو تقارير خبراء مجهزة لإراحة الفكر المشترك السائد. ولكن كيف لنا أن نعرّف بدقة مقتضى النقد الذي تطمح للالتزام به؟ وكيف نعيد تأكيده في سياق البحث الراهن؟ لقد قدم أحد عشر باحثاً محاولات للإجابة مستندين إلى استقصاءات قاموا بها حول مواضيع مختلفة تماماً، بعضها عن بعض. وقد شددت تحليلاتهم على مقدار ما تبقى عليه من عدم الاكتمال طالما استمرت متجاهلة التفكير في آثارها السياسية. غير أنها تُبيّن أيضاً أن النقد في العلوم الاجتماعية حاصل من خلال مساهمات الباحثين في النقاش العام بمقدار ما هو حاصل، بالتلازم، في مناهج استقصاءاتهم ومناقشة أعمالهم وتوضيح ممارساتهم بنحو جماعي.
