هذه الرحلة الطويلة من العذاب والحب ترويها "ندى إسماعيل" في كتابها هذا محاولة من خلاله الوقوف على الأسباب الحقيقية لوفاة سندريلا الشاشة "سعاد حسني"، وعلى أهم المحطات القاسية التي واكبت حياتها وأثرت على مسيرتها الفنية الطويلة التي انتهت بسفرها واعتكافها الفن ومن ثم موتها.
واللافت في هذا الكتاب أنها يحتوي العديد من النصوص والوثائق والرسائل التي تكشف عن معلومات هامة رافقت مسيرة المرض التي عانت منه سعاد حسني وكان سبباً لمغادرتها البلاد، كما تكشف عن المساعدات المادية التي طلب من الفنانة الكبيرة القبول بها لمتابعة مسيرة علاجها ومن هذه المساعدات هبة قدمتها الحكومة الإسرائيلية "لسعاد" وذلك لمتابعة علاجها إلا أن هذا العرض قد تمّ رفضه من قبلها بسبب حبها لوطنها ولشعب أمتها.
وقد تضمن الكتاب العديد من الصور الحية التي جسدت كافة مراحل حياتها من الطفولة وحتى الرحيل، صور وكلمات جمعت في هذا الكتاب لتخط سيرة حياة واحدة من أقدر وأهم ممثلات الشاشة العربية.
يروي هذا الكتاب قصة حياة سندريلا الشاشة العربية سعاد حسني بكل تفاصيلها واسرارها، منذ طفولتها البائسة وحتى نهايتها المروعة، مروراً ببدايتها الفنية وأعمالها الكاملة تمثيلاً وغناء، إضافة إلى الجوائز العديدة التي نالتها تكريماً لها ولأعمالها المميَّزة، كذلك تقييم النقّاد لها وآراء المخرجين والفنانين بها.
كما يروي قصة حبها مع المطرب العندليب الأسمر عبد الحليم حافظ والضغوط التي تعرَّض لها للابتعاد عنها وزواجها المتكرِّر.
يتضمَّن الكتاب عشرات الصور الحيّة في كافة مراحل حياتها منذ طفولتها وحتى رحيلها.
كما يتضمَّن رحلة المرض الطويلة الذي عرفته منذ كانت في الخامسة من عمرها وما رافقها من آلام وصبر وغربة... ونهاية مأساوية وما تخلَّلها من غموض وتحقيق جنائي لنجمة عشقتها الكاميرا فرفعتها إلى مجد أسعدها وأشقاها، أفرحها وأدمى قلبها في آن معاً.
