هذا الكتاب يمثل الذكريات والصلات الثقافية بين رواد الثقافة العربية والعراقية خاصة ممن لهم صلات ودَّ وتقدير، وصلات علم وأدب ونشاط فكري وخاصة في ما يتعلق بالتراث وإحيائه، وقد أردت أن يكون حديثاً عن مسيرتي العلمية ومسيرة من تجمعني وإياهم حب العربية وثقافتها وتراثها، وما قدموه من مشاركات وإنجازات علمية وأدبية يذكرها الأدباء والعلماء، ومن يجيء بعدهم ممن يحبون العربية وأهلها وتراثها وأوطانها.
ورأيت في كتابة هذا الكتاب فرصة للحديث عن محبي المخطوطات ومالكيها ممن عرفتهم ولي معهم ذكريات عزيزة، ولو لم يكونوا من الباحثين والمحققين، ولكنهم خدموا التراث بما حفظوا من كتب ومخطوطات ويسروها للباحثين والعلماء والجامعات، ولهم عليَّ إياد كريمة لا تجحد.
وكان من حق وطني عليَّ - يوم كان لنا وطن - أن أذكر ذكرياتي مع علماء العراق من أساتذتي الراحلين من محققي التراث، وجهودهم الخيرة في نشر العلم، ثم العلماء الذين تربطني بهم صلات محبة وإحترام، وأكْبِرُ فيهن علمهم وإستقامتهم من الذين لم ينعقوا مع كل ناعق في السابق واللاحق، وقد تحدثت عن جهود أصدقائي الكبار في خدمة العلم ونشر التراث الذين رحلوا يرحمهم الله، والذين ما زالوا يواصلون عطاءهم العلمي الثَّر الكريم، في نشر التراث المخطوط والمطبوع، وكل ما قدمت من حديث عمن أحبهم من كرام الأصدقاء إن هو إلا تحية حب وتقدير وتثمين لجهودهم الخيرة المباركة، فتحية حب وإجلال لمن رحل من هؤلاء الأشاوس، ومن بقي منهم من كرام الباحثين.
