غالي شكرى غالب ( منوف، المنوفيه، 12 مارس 1935 - باريس، 10 مايو 1998 ) ، كاتب وباحث و ناقد و مؤرخ مصري كبير اشتهر بأبحاثه وكتبه النقديه الكتيرة. حصل على الدكتوراة من جامعة السوربون في فرنسا عن موضوع " النهضة والسقوط في الفكر المصري الحديث " الذي أشرف عليها المستشرق الفرنسي المشهور جاك بيرك. رأس تحرير مجلة " القاهرة ". تم تكريمه في مصر بجائزة الدولة التقديرية في الآداب سنة 1996.

اعتاد المؤلفون القول بأن أعمالهم كأبنائهم متساوون فى المحبة والاقتراب من النفس. ولكني أعتقد أن تشبيه مؤلفات الكاتب بأبنائه فيه تجاوز كبير. لذلك أحب أن أقول إن "المنتمي" هو من أقرب أعمالي إلى نفسي، وقد مضت على طبعته الأولى ثلاث وعشرون سنة حين رحت أضع الخطوط الأولى لـ "المنتمى"، لم تكن هناك سوى بعض المقالات والمقابلات وأعمال الكاتب نفسه. ولكن كانت هناك قبل ذلك وبعده هذه القضية الملحة والتى دعوتها بالانتماء، وها الرباط الخفى بين العام والخاص، وهذه العلاقة الأسرة التى تمت بين الكاتب وجمهوره حتى أصبح الروائي الأول فى القراءة العربية المعاصرة، سواء قراءة مئات الألوف من المواطنين العرب فى كل مكان، أو قراءة النقاد.
كان نجيب محفوظ يؤسس الرواية العربية على أكثر من مستوى: كان يؤسس الصيغة الجمالية ذاتها بعد محاولات الرواد ذات الشأن العظيم فى تمهيد الأرض أمامه. وكان يؤسس ذوقاً فنياً جديداً يغالب الذوق السائد الذى شكلته أعمال الرومانتيكيين الكبار. وكان يؤسس جمهوراً عريضاً هو جمهور الرواية.
وغلى جانب هذا التأسيس المتعدد الجبهات، كان نجيب محفوظ يحاول التجديد بقدر ما تملك موهبته ورؤياه من طاقات.
