"إنني أذكر عثمان صديقي، مرة في غرفتي في قلب موسكو، حول كأسين من الفودكا التقينا، وتحدثنا عن السودان وعن مصر... وكوبا والجزائر، وعن السد الذي يروي الصداقة وعن الثورة الفن ورواد الفضاء...".
"بأسناني، سأحمي كل شير من ثرى وطني، بأسناني، ولن ارض بديلاً عنه لو علقت من شريان شرياني"...
"على مهلي أشد الضوء خيطاً ريقاً من ظلمة الليل وأرعى مشتل الأحلام عند منابع السيل وأمسح دمع أحبابي بمنديل من الغل ولكني... كنيران المجوس أضيء من مهدي إلى لحدي...".
"أحس أنها حكاية تطول، ورحلة على جناح بلبل جميل، التقط النجوم، أشكلها قلادة لعنقك الصغير، وفي المساء، وحينما تنطفئ السماء، وتحضن الوسادة البيضاء رأسك الغرير، تنام في سلام، مع اليمام، في صدرك المفتح الحرير...".
... هذه هي النماذج الأربعة التي يمكن تصنيف شعر توفيق زياد تحتها فالنموذج الأول هو الشعر الخطابي الذي يعتمد على الوصف الخارجي والسرد الظاهري وتقع تحت هذا النموذج جميع قصائد مجموعته الماركسية أما النموذج الثاني وهو شعر الغضب الخارجي فأهم ما فيه حرارته وصدقه وعفويته ولكنها تعتمد أيضاً على الوصف الخارجي أما النموذج الثالث فهو الشعر الذي يمتزج فيه الحنين بالغضب دون تكلف ولعل هذا هو أفضل نماذج شعر توفيق زياد أما النموذج الرابع فهو شعر رومنتيكي هامس قد نستغرب أن توفيق زياد صاحب قصيدة "هنا باقون" هو نفسه الذي قال مثل هذا النموذج الذي نرى صلاح عبد الصبور فيه: في موسيقاه الخافتة الهادئة. ومع هذا فإن هذا التصنيف ليس له حدود واضحة ومفهرسة بل يختلط أحياناً كما قلت شعر (الغضب الخارجي بالغضب الداخلي بالحلم بالحنين) وهذا هو اتجاه قصائد توفيق الجديدة ويمكن أن يضع تحت هذا النموذج العام الأخير عند زياد قصائده الممتازة مثل: 1-أحب ولكن، 2-رجوعيات، 3-ضرائب، 4-هنا باقون، 5-على جذع زيتونة، 6-نيران المجوس، 7-كلمات صغيرة.
