هذه مجموعة من الدراسات في تاريخ النقد العربي ومصطلحاته ومنهج دراسته، يؤمن صاحبها بأن الكثير من قضايا تراثنا النقدي لم ينل ما يستحق من اهتمام، وأن الكثير مما قيل في هذه القضايا يحتاج إلى إعادة نظر، وأن الآفة الكبرى التي تعاني منها دراسة تراثنا وفهمه هي جزئية النظرة وعدم شمولها، وعزل النصوص والأخبار عن سياقاتها، وعدم التنبه لعملية التفاعل التي كانت على أشدها بين ايقول المؤلف:
هذه مجموعة من الدراسات في تاريخ النقد العربي ومصطلحاته ومنهج دراسته، يؤمن صاحبها بأن الكثير من قضايا تراثنا النقدي لم ينل ما يستحق من اهتمام، وأن الكثير مما قيل في هذه القضايا يحتاج إلى إعادة نظر، وأن الآفة الكبرى التي تعاني منها دراسة تراثنا وفهمه هي جزئية النظرة وعدم شمولها، وعزل النصوص والأخبار عن سياقاتها، وعدم التنبه لعملية التفاعل التي كانت على أشدها بين بيئات الفكر المختلفة، قم الدخول إلى مادة الدرس بأفكار سابقة إيجابية مندفعة أحيانا، وسلبية محبطة أحيانا أخرى.
لقد حاولت في هذه المجموعة من الدراسات أن تكشف على قدر الإمكان إلى أي مدى حين يحرص الدارس على تجنب مثل هذه المزالق.
من هذه القضايا تأسيس علم النقد وطبيعة عمل الناقد وثقافته، ومنها موقف الناقد العربي من وحدة القصيدة، وتفاوت تعريف الشعر تبعا لاختلاف البيئات الثقافية المتصدية له، والعوامل المؤثرة في مسيرة المصطلح النقدي ، ثم ما يعرض لنصوص التراث من سوء فهم حين ينزع النص من سياقه.
