Book Description

This scholarly work opens the door to an unknown world for many intellectuals—the world of ancient manuscripts and the codices of the Qur’ān. Through careful, methodical study, these famous manuscripts have now been arranged in a new chronological order based on scientific and technical analysis of calligraphic style, illustrative decorations or motifs, and the materials used in producing them. It includes the identification of scribes who contributed in the codification of these manuscripts and the examination of spelling anomalies among several manuscripts. Explanations regarding the nature and reason for this spelling phenomena and discussion concerning the use of multiple scribes and the effects of these unusual spellings are presented in it. Special emphasis was given to the palimpsest of Ṣan‘ā’ DAM 01-27.1. It shows with definitive evidences the invalidity of the media’s claim on July 22, 2015, that the Birmingham Qur’ānic manuscript, Mingana 1572a, dates to the era of the Rashidun caliphs, perhaps as early as the era of the prophet Muhammad himself
