در اين کتاب, داستان زندگانی حسن صباح(وفات518 ه.ق)- موسس طريقه باطنی- با اشاره به حکومت اسماعيليان و نيز شرح اوضاع و احوال ايران در آن زمان بازگو می شود.به تصريح مترجم:نهضت حسن صباح فقط يک نهضت مذهبی نبوده,او می خواسته ايران را از زيرسلطه خلفای عباسی يا حکومت های وابسته به خلافت برهاند. حسن صباح در اواخر قرن پنجم هجری, اساس حکومت اسماعيليه را بنا نهاد و پس از آن تا مدت دو ق در اين کتاب, داستان زندگانی حسن صباح(وفات518 ه.ق)- موسس طريقه باطنی- با اشاره به حکومت اسماعيليان و نيز شرح اوضاع و احوال ايران در آن زمان بازگو می شود.به تصريح مترجم:نهضت حسن صباح فقط يک نهضت مذهبی نبوده,او می خواسته ايران را از زيرسلطه خلفای عباسی يا حکومت های وابسته به خلافت برهاند. حسن صباح در اواخر قرن پنجم هجری, اساس حکومت اسماعيليه را بنا نهاد و پس از آن تا مدت دو قرن جانشينان او در مناطق خاصی از ايران و عمدتا در قلعه های مستحکم خود, حکومت هايی محلی و محدود داشتند. شيوه قتل دشمنان سياسی و اعتقادی اسماعيليان به دست فدائيان اين فرقه يکی از نکات مهم تاريخ اسماعيليه است. تعدادی از سرفصل ها و مطالب کتاب از اين قرار است:"داروفروشان الموت","موسی نيشابوری در قلعه طبس","کيش باطنی الموت چگونه به وجود آمد؟","خواجه نظام الملک","مقدمه روز رستگاری به عقيده باطنی ها","روز قيامت يا قيامه القيامه","باطنی ها در قومس","بهشت مصنوعی","خواجه نظام الملک چگونه کشته شد؟","کشتار در اصفهان","بيماری حسن صباح","زمينه سوءقصد کردن به حسن صباح","آخرين ساعات عمر خداوند الموت"و "مرگ حسن صباح".
