يطرح هذا الكتاب جملةً من التساؤلات في قضايا ثقافيّة وحضاريّة، وهي في معظمها تتعلّق بمخرجات عمليّة النهضة، والتنوير على مستوى الإنتاج المعرفيّ، بما في ذلك اللغة الّتي نعاينها بوصفها منتجاً حضارياً تعرّض للإستلاب والهدم، ممّا يعني بأنّ تمثيلات حضارتنا على الرغم من وجودها غير أنّها فاعلة، أو في وضع مشوّه نتيجة الإنحرافات الدائمة عن تحقيق النموذج الحضاي الذي نبتغيه، وإذا ما نظرنا إلى كافة المشاريعالحضارية بدءاً من النهضة العربيّة في القرن التاسع عشر إنتهاءً بأزمنة الربيع العربيّ، فإنّنا سنجد أنّ كافة هذه المشاريع قد ولدت مشوّهة، أو أنها سرعان ما خرجت عن مسارها، وبذلك فقد تحقّق ما يمكن أن ننعته بالإستلاب، أو الإنهدام للفعل الحضاريّ.
إنّ القوة والتفوّق لا يمكن أن يتحقّقا إلا بالمعرفة، وخير دليل على ذلك ما اضطلع به العلماء والمستشرقون الأوربيّون من دور قبيل إستعمار قطاعاتٍ واسعةٍ من العالم، بالإضافة إلى ما تنشط به المراكز البحثية في الغرب من دراسة وتحليل لكافّة قطاعات العالم العربي ودول العالم؛ فالهيمنة والتفوّق يتطلّبان معرفة كافة ما يتّصل بالآخَر، وتحديداً اللغة، والثقافة، والبنى الإقتصاديّة، وكذلك القدرات العسكريّة التي تستند إلى معرفةٍ علميّةٍ وتقنيّةٍ رفيعة المستوى، وهذا ما يبدو غائباً عن الوعي العربيّ، سواء على مستوى المؤسّسة الرسميّة، أو على مستوى المثقّفين الّذين ينبغي أن يضطلعوا بدورٍ إنتقادي أكثر حدّةً لمنظومة الفكر العربيّ التي يعتورها التخاصم والتنابذ مّما يحول دون قيام بحثٍ علميّ حقيقيّ، بالإضافة إلى غياب الحريّة وقيم التسامح الّتي تعدّ شرطاً ضرورياً لأيّ مجتمع يرغب في إزدهار البحث العلميّ كما يرى الفيلسوف الإنجليزيّ برتراند رسل.
