ولقد وفق ستيفن كونر بتتبع موضوعه المتواضع عبر الأساطير والأدب والفنون والأفلام وعلم الأحياء. إن هذا الكتاب هو الأول الذي يمنح مثل هذه الحشرة الصغير ة ما تستحقه، وهو ينتهي بالتغيير الحاصل في سمعة الذبابة عبر تقدير الإعجاز في تصميمها ووظائفها. وبدأنا أخيراً بفهم أسرار قدرات الذبابة الفريدة على الطيران، وانتهى القرن العشرين الذي بدأ بحملات عالمية لإبادة الذباب، بوضع ذبابة الفاكهة المتواضعة في بؤرة الثورة التي أحدثتها في علم الجينات.
