الدراسة التي نقدمها اليوم، هي دراسة عن الفكر السياسي والاجتماعي في مجلة المنار "1898- 1935"، باعتبار المنار تشكل جذرًا من أهم الجذور الفكرية للأفكار الأصولية المعاصرة في بلادنا، وسوف نتتبع في هذه الدراسة الرؤى والمواقف السياسية والاجتماعية لهذه المجلة منذ بداية صدورها حتى توقفها عام 1935 بوفاة صاحبها محمد رشيد رضا.
وعلى الصعيد المنهجي، سنتبع في هذه الدراسة منهج التحليل التاريخي لنصوص المنار، لربط هذه النصوص بالواقع الذي أنتجها، والوصول في النهاية إلى تقييم لدور المنار في تطوير- أو تثبيت- هذا الواقع.
وثمة مسألة منهجية مهمة ينبغي توضيحها منذ البداية، حيث سيلاحظ القارئ على امتداد هذه الدراسة نوعًا من التداخل بين المنار كمجلة وبين صاحبها رشيد رضا، وهذا التداخل طبيعي وموضوعي في واقع الأمر، فرغم أن المنار قد استضافت على صفحاتها أحيانًا كتابات لآخرين كثر غير رشيد رضا- وهو ما سنوضحه في مواضعه- إلا أن رضا ظل هو الكاتب الأساسي في كل القضايا التي ناقشتها المنار، بل أنه انفرد في كثير من الأحيان، بالكتابة في قضايا سياسية واجتماعية عديدة.
وقد تم تقسيم هذه الدراسة إلى تمهيد وستة فصول وخاتمة، وفي التمهيد ناقشنا أهم أفكار الإصلاح الإسلامي السابق على المنار في إطارها التاريخي، كما ناقشنا ملابسات إصدار المنار، ومفهومها للإصلاح الإسلامي وعلاقة هذا الإصلاح لديها بالإصلاح السابق عليه. وفي الفصل الأول، ناقشنا رؤية المنار لأهم المفاهيم السياسية النظرية التي أثارت جدلًا فكريًا في هذه المرحلة. وفي الفصل الثاني، تتبعنا علاقة المنار بالدولة العثمانية، ثم في عهد مصطفى كمال. وفي الفصل الثالث، أوضحنا مواقف المنار من القضايا السياسية العملية في العالم العربي. وفي الفصل الرابع، تتبعنا رؤية المنار لقضايا المرأة. وفي الفصل الخامس، ناقشنا رؤى المنار لقضايا التربية والتعليم وموقفها إزاء المؤسسات التعليمية القائمة في زمنها. أما في الفصل السادس، فقد ناقشنا رؤى المنار لبعض تجليات الحداثة التي ظهرت في العالم الإسلامي بفعل احتكاكه بالغرب، منذ بداية القرن التاسع عشر، وأبرزها العلم الحديث والاقتصاد الحديث والفنون الحديثة، والمنتجات التقنية الغربية التي اقتحمت الحياة اليومية للمسلمين وصارت جزءًا لا يتجزأ منها، منذ بداية القرن العشرين. وفي النهاية، قدمنا خاتمة استخلاصية للدراسة، تحمل أهم نتائجها العامة وتؤكد على بعض قضاياها المنهجية الرئيسية.
