الدين أو ما يطلق عليه بعض المفكرين المرحلة اللاهوتية، يشكل مرحلة من مراحل تطور الفكر الإنساني ونشاـه ومؤلفة هذا الكتاب تذهب إلى أن نشأة فكرة الألوهية قد نشأت حول الصلة بين المُؤلّه والمؤلِّه وأن الدين قد نشأ على أسس التفكير فيما بعد الطبيعة. لذا رأت ضرورة أن تقوم بدراسة الدين على أسس سليمة من قواعد العلم "علم الحياة، وعلم الأجناس، وعلم النفس، والتاريخ.
وفي هذا الكتاب وهو الأول من سلسلة "نحو آفاق أوسع" تتناول موضوع الدين في مصر والعصور القديمة وعند العبريين وهي ما تشكل برأيها مرحلة الطفولة التي شهدت نشوء الفكر الديني، حيث طبعت هذه المرحلة بطابع السذاجة وهو طور ترى أنه يستجيب لعصور الهمجية، والقبلية البدائية. هذا وقد قسمت مادة دراستها على ثلاثة فصول الأول ضمنته حديثاً عن الدين في مصر القديمة، الثاني: أفردته لموضوع الدين عند الكلدان والسومريين والبابليين، أما الباب الثالث فخصصته لموضوع هام وشيق وآني وهو الدين عند العبريين.
