صحفي، كاتب سياسي، ناشر.
ولد في الدقهلية بمصر، وتعلم في المنصورة، ثم حصل على الإجازة في الأدب الإنكليزي من جامعة القاهرة، عمل بجريدة المساء ثم الجمهورية، وانتقل إلى بيروت حيث أسند إليه قيادة مركز التخطيط الفلسطيني التابع لمنظمة التحرير. كما عمل بجريدة الثورة في بغداد.
انتفل إلى باريس فحصل على درجة الدكتوراه من السوربون. رجع بعدها إلى وطنه فأسس دار "فكر" للنشر.

الكتاب ينتمي لأدب السجون ، كاتبه ماركسي مصري عاين وعانى مجزرة 1959 التي أدارتها الناصرية ضد الماركسيين المصريين كجزء من حرب شاملة خاضها ناصر ضد اليسار الماركسي العربي في مصر وسوريا والعراق ، تلك الحرب التي وصلت الى حد التراشق مع نيكيتا خروتشوف.

يضم الكتاب بعضا من أجود انتاج الشعراء الماركسيين ، قصائد نتجت في قلب المعاناة ومن رحم الألم والمأساة وللأستاذ طاهر البدري فضل عظيم في حفظ تلك النصوص من الضياع.
