سيرة هذا الخليفة مثيرة للغاية وتاريخه يستحق الدراسة ، والأحداث التي شهدها عهده فريدة من نوعها ولم تشهد مصر مثيلا لها على مر تاريخها الطويل ، وقد شهدت البلاد في فترة حكمه الطويلة - 60 عام - ظروفا عصيبة و وقائع غريبة و صادمة ، و قد تبدلت أحوال البلاد والعباد في عصره تبدلا دراماتيكيا من القوة و الازدهار و الثراء الفاحش إلى الضعف و الانحلال و الفقر المدقع ثم تعود الأحوال مرة أ سيرة هذا الخليفة مثيرة للغاية وتاريخه يستحق الدراسة ، والأحداث التي شهدها عهده فريدة من نوعها ولم تشهد مصر مثيلا لها على مر تاريخها الطويل ، وقد شهدت البلاد في فترة حكمه الطويلة - 60 عام - ظروفا عصيبة و وقائع غريبة و صادمة ، و قد تبدلت أحوال البلاد والعباد في عصره تبدلا دراماتيكيا من القوة و الازدهار و الثراء الفاحش إلى الضعف و الانحلال و الفقر المدقع ثم تعود الأحوال مرة أخرى للتحسن تدريجيا !!! و قد سميت الظروف العصيبة التي شهدها عصره بالشدة المستنصرية ؛ و يكفي أن نشير إلى أن ثلث الشعب المصري قد هلك في تلك الفترة بسبب المجاعات و جفاف النيل و الأوبئة و الصراع السياسي والفتن الطائفية و الفوضى الأمنية ، حتى أن الجوع طال الخليفة ذاته مما دفع احدى السيدات الكريمات بالتصدق عليه بكسرة خبز يوميا !!! و قد وصل سعر رغيف الخبز إلى ألف دينار ذهب !!! حتى أنه قد بيعت حارة كاملة ببيوتها و حوانيتها و كل ما هو قائم عليها بطبق من الطعام !!! و قد تسبب الجوع في ارتكاب أفظع ما يمكن تخيله من جرائم حتى أن بعض الناس أكلوا بعضهم البعض بالمعنى الحرفي للكلام !!! ولذلك فإن دراسة تلك الحقبة الزمنية و سيرة هذا الخليفة مليئة بالعبر مما يجعل التعمق فيها ضروريا للفهم و التعلم
