إخوان الصفا: مجموعةٌ من الفلاسفة العرب المسلمين، عاشوا في القرن العاشر الميلادي في مدينة البصرة بالعراق، واتفقوا على توحيد المذاهب الإسلامية، والنظريات الفلسفية، ويُنسَب إليهم كتابُ «رسائل إخوان الصفا».
ويُرجِّح المؤرخون أن «إخوان الصفا وخلَّان الوفا» ينحدرون من الفكر الإسماعيلي. تختلف طبقات «إخوان الصفا» الاجتماعية؛ فمنهم أبناءُ الطبقة الغنية كالملوك والأمراء والوزراء، ومنهم أبناءُ عامَّةِ الشعب كالعُمال والكُتاب والتُّجار، وأبناء الأدباء والعلماء والفقهاء، وفئاتهم، لم يتم تحديد أسمائهم، ولا سَكَنهم، ولا عددهم. وقد اختلف المؤرخون في ماهيتهم ومذهبهم وهُويَّتهم، ولكنهم قد تركوا رسائلَهم التي تُعَدُّ موسوعةً هائلة تضمَّنتْ أهمَّ فنونِ الثقافة التي وُجِدت في عصرهم، ويبلغ عددُها اثنتين وخمسين رسالة، هدفُها المُعلَن «التظافُر للسعي إلى سعادة النفس عن طريق العلوم التي تُطهِّر النفس.» وقد اهتمَّ «إخوان الصفا» بالفلسفات اليونانية وفلسفة فارس والهند القديمة، وكانوا يدمجونها مع الفلسفة الإسلامية في شرْحِهم لنظرية الخَلْق. وكانوا يهدفون إلى التقريبِ بين الأديان والفلسفة، ومحْوِ فكرةِ ازدراءِ الفلسفة لدى المُتديِّنين، وبيانِ أنَّ الإسلام والفلسفة لا يتعارضان؛ ولهذا السبب كانوا يكتبون في الخفاء، ويتجمَّعون بشكلٍ أَشْبه بالخلايا السياسية السِّرية في العصر الحديث. كما اهتمَّ «إخوان الصفا» بجميع الأديان السماوية، وعلوم الفلك، والرياضيات والموسيقى والمعادن والنبات والحيوان.
في خلافِهم حول تصنيف «إخوان الصفا»، ذهَبَ بعضُ علماء المسلمين إلى اتهامهم بالهرطقة والإلحاد، ووصفوا فكرهم بالزندقة والفساد، بينما ذهَبَ آخَرون إلى اعتبارهم من أتباع المعتزلة، وقال آخَرون إنهم يتبعون المدرسةَ الباطنية. وقيل إنهم كانوا يتبعون أسلوبَ التَّقِيَّة في إخفاء هُويَّتهم، كما قيل إنَّ ابن المقفع كان واحدًا منهم.
