تـُعدّّ رحلة الأمير فخر الدين المعني الثاني من الوثائق النادرة في بابها؛ فهي من أقدم المدوّنات العربية التي وصفت جوانب مهمة من مدنيَّـة أوربا في مطلع القرن السابع عشر. فبعض المدن التي زارها المعني أو أقام فيها شهدت بدايات النهضة الأوربية الحديثة. وكانت إقامته ضيفاً على آل ميديتشي الذين كانوا آباءً للنهضة الأوروبية، سبباً في ما حاول إحداثه من نهضة في بلاد الشام، دفع في ما ب تـُعدّّ رحلة الأمير فخر الدين المعني الثاني من الوثائق النادرة في بابها؛ فهي من أقدم المدوّنات العربية التي وصفت جوانب مهمة من مدنيَّـة أوربا في مطلع القرن السابع عشر. فبعض المدن التي زارها المعني أو أقام فيها شهدت بدايات النهضة الأوربية الحديثة. وكانت إقامته ضيفاً على آل ميديتشي الذين كانوا آباءً للنهضة الأوروبية، سبباً في ما حاول إحداثه من نهضة في بلاد الشام، دفع في ما بعد ثمنها عنقه وعنق ولده. المثير في رحلته أن التفاوت الحضاري بين العرب والغرب آنذاك لم يكن كبيراً، و كان بوسع العرب تجاوزه لو لم يقـُم العثمانيون بقطع الطريق على بوادر التطورات الرامية إلى تأسيس نهضة عربية تستلهم نهضة الغرب، أو تستفيد من بعض منجزاتها.
اختارت لجنة التحكيم هذا النص للفوز عن جدارة بجائزة ابن بطوطة لتحقيق المخطوطات لسنة 2006 لما بذل محققه في تحقيقه وتقديمه من جهد علمي وأناة في البحث وماقدمه من إضاءات في مقدمته للكتاب.
